Wireless Dog Fence

A wireless dog fence can be set up in a matter of minutes. With no wire to bury, installation involves simply placing the base station at the desired location and plugging it in. Done!

Wireless dog fences project circular boundaries. Your dog wears a special receiver collar. If your dog ventures beyond the boundary they hear a warning beep. If the dog remains beyond the boundary they will receive a correction shock.

Unlike in-ground system boundaries, wireless boundaries are not finite. This feature ensures the dog cannot run through the boundary. With an infinite boundary zone, dogs can receive a correction anywhere outside the boundary. Wireless fence systems are also portable. Many owners take their wireless fence to vacation homes and even campsites.

Of course there is a price for the convenience. Wireless systems only create circular boundaries. You cannot create a customized boundary line that is possible with in-ground systems.

The good news is that owners can work around this limitation (to a certain degree) by overlapping two or more circular boundaries established by wireless system base stations.

There are two wireless dog fence models to choose from. The Petsafe IF-300 Wireless Pet Containment system is the original wireless dog fence. We have substantial experience working with these systems and they function quite well. Our only complaint is that the boundary radius is only 90 feet from the base unit, resulting in a maximum coverage area of half an acre. To expand the coverage area, owners can overlap multiple bases stations.

The second option, the Perimeter Technologies WiFi Fence is the new kid on the block, and became available in July 2009. It uses WiFi technology, the same technology that powers your wireless internet at home. Perimeter Technologies claims the WiFi Dog Fence will create a boundary radius of 200 feet resulting in a coverage area of over 2 acres from a single base unit. It also uses the WiFi signals to inform owners how far away their dog is, if their dog is challenging the boundary, and when the batteries are low.
