The SportDog Brand in-ground fence (SDF-100) system is a great choice for owners with expansive properties. The system can cover up to 100 acres, perfect for someone with a significant land, but still trying to keep the dogs off the roads or a neighbor's property. The rugged system can take a beating and still keep working. The waterproofing is particularly good.
The system comes with 1,000 feet of wire (double the standard 500 feet) which is a nice money saver. It also comes with 100 flags instead of the standard 50.
The collars use a standard 9 volt battery that you can pick up at most stores and lasts about three months. This battery life is significantly better than that of the proprietary batteries in the PetSafe and Perimeter systems, but not as good as the rechargeable batteries in the Innotek systems.
The SportDog SDF-100 system boasts the largest containment area, but also come with the largest collars. The collar bands are florescent orange. This may make sense for visibility, but for most of us it is just plain ugly. We only recommend this system for owners with extremely large properties or for those with hunting dogs.
