The PetSafe Little Dog fence system (PIG-00-10773) is the only system designed specifically with small dogs in mind. The system features a small collar to suit the diminutive dog. The Little Dog collars are about half the size of regular collars and weigh only an ounce.
Although collar size is a key feature, this is not a necessity if you have a small dog. Smaller dogs can do just fine with most regular systems. Of course, the tiny collar is nice to have for very small dogs. Another customized feature relates to correction settings. PetSafe scaled back the correction levels to be more appropriate for little dogs. As with all the PetSafe systems you can use it with their indoor pods (PIRF-100).
The collar for the Petsafe Little Dog system is unfortunately not rechargeable, which we would expect at this price point. You need to buy Petsafe’s proprietary batteries, Petsafe RFA-188. Replacement batteries cost about $10 each. PetSafe states that the RFA-188 lasts between one and three months. Our experience has been closer to the one month battery life. As such, battery costs can quickly add up.
The correction level is set at the collar, which allows you to adjust levels for different dogs. You can select among three different correction levels and a tone only level for training.
The collar band is plastic and has a quick release clasp as well as a regular buckle for adjusting the length.
The product is covered by PetSafe’s Limited Lifetime warranty (Translation: A real one year warranty then a labor/service charge in subsequent years.)
