Perimeter Technologies Basic Ultra Comfort Contact Pet Fencing System (PTPCC-200K) adds adjustable correction levels and adjustable frequencies to their Basic model.
Interference is a common issue when installing dog fence systems close to a neighbor's system. It is difficult to predict what systems will interfere with each other. However, the Perimeter Technologies Basic Ultra system lets you switch your system to different frequencies to avoid interference issues. This is tremendously useful if you have a neighbor with some type of dog fence. Especially if their wire is running near where you want to run your boundary wire or if they have their boundary width cranked up.
The other significant addition to the Basic system is an adjustable correction level. The ability to adjust correction levels is a nice feature if you have dogs of significantly different sizes or temperaments.
Unfortunately, the collars included in the Perimeter Technologies Basic Ultra are not rechargeable. As with their Basic system, owners must shell out $10 every 4-6 months for their proprietary batteries.
If Perimeter Technologies is your brand, consider paying the extra $20 for the Ultra as it includes worthwhile upgrades over the basic systems.
As with the Perimeter Technologies Basic system, the Basic Ultra boasts an impressive sounding list of features. We can't help but think that these features solve problems that people don't have. The most promoted aspect is the "comfort contact" probes on the dog collar. This is promoted as preventing skin irritation, but we have not seen this to be a genuine issue in practice.
The Perimeter Technologies Basic Ultra also boasts "temp check" and "wire check" features that are meant to keep the boundary width constant relative to changes in temperature and the wire. But, these are simply not real problems in the field. Variations in temperature and the wire do affect boundary width but the effect is negligible. Our opinion is that these are more marketing devices that real features.
What Perimeter Technologies should boast more about is that it is a well made system. We find their units are very reliable. The collars are waterproof and can withstand even full immersion.
