The Petsafe Wireless Dog Fence, model number PIF-300 is currently the only wireless system on the market. The PetSafe PIF-300 emits a wireless signal that forms a circular boundary. You can adjust the size of the boundary (up to a 90 foot radius), but you can only have a circular boundary shape. Additional Petsafe base stations can be purchased to increase the boundary size by overlapping multiple boundaries from multiple base stations.
Setting up the Petsafe PIF-300 is a snap. Just plug in the unit, adjust the boundary distance, put in the flags and you are ready to start training your dog.
The PetSafe Wireless PIF-300 base station can be operated by battery. The PIF-300 is portable and quickly establishes a perimeter boundary for dogs.
The Petsafe Wireless dog fence is also a reliable unit that works consistently. We rarely receive complaints about the units and they exhibit great longevity. Our only complaint is that the receiver collars require a proprietary non-rechargeable Petsafe battery. The batteries last about three months and cost about $6 each.
PetSafe will soon have a competitor in the form of the Perimeter Technologies WiFi dog fence. It will have a longer range (boundary radius of 200 feet) giving you more than four times the area (2.5acres) for a similar price. However, if you only need the 90 feet radius of the PIF-300, this is the model we would recommend. The PetSafe Wireless has been around for more than five years and is well tested. The Wifi Fence may have better features but early buyers should be aware that they are buying a new product that may have early bugs.
